You are a Personal Brand?

Would you consider yourself a personal brand?

Actually… hold that thought – read this article and I’ll ask you again

I’ve said this many times before-I believe it’s true…

If you’re alive, you’re a brand

(And sometimes, you don’t even have to be alive anymore… but let’s not get side tracked!)

So firstly, what exactly is a brand?

Jeff Bezos famously said

Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”

In other words, your brand is your reputation.

Secondly, why do brands exist?

In my opinion, the short answer is (or at least should be…) because they have something of value to offer the world.

Then lastly, what makes a brand successful?

They’re crystal clear on three things:

  • Who they are
  • Where they’re headed
  • How they are going to get there

Then they show up consistently – Every. Single. Time.

So based on this… if I asked you again – are you a personal brand?

Not 100% sure?

Perhaps it’s because…

You think “personal branding” is reserved for businesses, celebrities and people who want to be rich and famous

You might not want your face on a billboard (totally fair!)

But, to me while there is a difference between defining who you are and monetizing who you are, both are branding

You dont have to only take my word for it…

According to Harvard Business Review

“Your personal brand is the combination of your skills, the values you present, and the impression you leave on others.”

You’re a person who interacts with others – in real life, on calls, through messages, emails, and social media.

– With every interaction, you’re building your reputation.

You’re someone with unique gifts, talents, passions, and ways to make the world around you better

– You have something of value to offer

Whether you’re building a million-dollar business or simply showing up as your best self to your family and friends – your brand matters!

Before you choose a logo, build a website, post an Instagram reel, or even send that message, you need clarity on

  1. Where you’re heading (your mission, vision, and those big scary goals)
  2. Where you are now (your values, passions, stories, and voice)
  3. How you connect the two (who you serve, what you offer, and how you communicate)

And then show up consistently- Every.Single.Time!

So, one last time – are you a personal brand?

Do you still feel this is a business concept or you can see how who you are matters in all areas of life!
