If Life Was a Game
It would be Snakes and Ladders
Except – you can’t see the blocks, the snakes and ladders are invisible and you have no idea how far away block 100 is….
Sound more fun than the original?
It can be – but only if you become an active participant.
What do I mean by that?
I mean waking up every single day, and living with intention.
Now, before we continue let me make one thing clear – to me there’s a world of difference between being intentional and being calculated.
I do not believe in getting ahead at someone else’s expense, using anyone to my advantage or manipulating a situation.
I do believe in setting clear goals, rolling the dice daily to make intentional decisions, and looking out for things that will derail me…

In other words – a perfect game of snakes and ladders!
Something else to note is that I don’t believe in playing alone. I am blessed to have friends and family and talk to God all day.
To quote the words from one of my favorite movies – I believe… “I am guided by a force much greater than luck” (Empire Records, 1995!)

So here are my tips to play a game you can’t see…
1. Set a clear goal.
You’ve probably heard this before, but for a goal to be useful it must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound). General ideas and rough plans don’t help.
Henry Kissinger once said:
“If you don’t know where you are going, every road will get you nowhere”
Be very clear on exactly what you are after, because this helps you with tip 2…
2. Recognise the ladders
Ever noticed when something is on your mind examples appear everywhere? Looking to buy a new car? The brand you are considering is in every parking lot! That’s not coincidence.
It’s your Reticular Activating System – a key part of your brain that acts as a filter, helping to prioritize what needs attention.
When you have clear goals, your brain filters out all the noise and focuses on finding the means to achieve them, often making connections or noticing details that would otherwise go unnoticed. (LADDERS!)
Then lastly…
3. Look out for the snakes (and don’t be your own!)
Your gut instinct is a snake detector. That feeling when something’s not quite right? Listen! Those moments when you know you should walk away? Run!
But here’s the thing – we’re often our own worst enemies.
Negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, and bad habits are the most dangerous snakes in our game. They show up as procrastination, self-doubt, or that voice telling you “you’re not ready yet.”
An important skill to master is the ability to distinguish between your protective gut instinct and things trying to hold you back.
One keeps you safe, the other keeps you small!
That’s all I have for you this week…
