Bigger Goals and Hard Things

Big goals are exciting—but without a bigger, wider plan, the cost can be too high. When you focus on what matters most, success becomes truly sustainable.

Published On: May 7, 2025

It’s Wednesday, and I want to share something I have been thinking alot about lately…

EVERYONE talks about setting goals, dreaming big, and making plans. It’s a booming industry!

MANY people discuss the journey and what it takes to achieve those dreams. The “how-to” of it all.

A FEW brave souls open up about the struggles, the setbacks, and the moments they wanted to quit.

But NOT ENOUGH talk about the collateral damage. The parts of your life that get sacrificed while you’re chasing that one big ultimate dream.

Here’s what I’ve seen over and over again…

Having a big goal isn’t enough << Test First Name >>. You need a BIGGER one.

And I don’t mean bigger as in HIGHER or more ambitious. I mean WIDER.

A plan that includes all areas of your life – not just that shiny achievement you’ve set your sights on.

I think success in isolation is rarely success at all. What good is reaching the summit if your relationships are in ruins, your health is compromised, or your joy is depleted?

And very importantly – You can’t wait until after you’ve “made it” to repair the damage. By then, it’s often too late.

This bigger plan needs to be in place from the beginning. It needs to run parallel to your big goal, not after it.

And let’s be honest—these are hard things.

The things most of us don’t naturally gravitate toward.

Building a business?

Do you still make time for family when deadlines are looming

Do you prioritize your health when there’s “just one more thing” to finish?

Are you a sports person?

Are you paying attention to your academics, your friendships, your family?

Are you thinking about life when you hang up the goggles, put down the bat or kick the last ball?

These aren’t just hard things – they’re sometimes the things no one wants to do. And they usually don’t get the likes, the shares, or the applause.

Here’s my definition of a truly successful person:

It’s not the one who achieves that single, impressive goal while everything else burns. It’s the person who sets big goals, does the hard things to achieve them AND keeps the bigger goal in mind… doing the even harder things needed.

This person still reaches that summit, but when they get there….

  • They have a support system to celebrate with.

  • They have their health to enjoy the view.

  • They have peace of mind to appreciate what they’ve accomplished.

Most importantly, they have options.

They’ve built a stable foundation that allows them to choose what comes next, rather than desperately trying to repair what was lost.

So I ask you:

What’s your big goal right now?

And what’s your BIGGER plan to ensure you don’t sacrifice what matters along the way?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if you’re struggling with creating that bigger plan, send me an email – kira@kiragoller.com. We can figure it out together!

Here’s to setting bigger goals and doing the even harder things, because that’s where true success lives.

Til next week!
